Block noise before it spreads. Our professional-grade Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) membrane is the industry standard for serious soundproofing — used in recording studios, home theaters, offices, and construction projects across Kuwait. Choose the thickness that fits your project.

What is MLV?

Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) is a dense, flexible soundproofing barrier engineered to block the transmission of airborne noise through walls, floors, ceilings, and doors. Unlike foam or soft acoustic panels — which absorb sound within a room — MLV physically stops sound waves from passing through building structures. It is the most effective single-layer soundproofing solution available for both residential and commercial applications.

Why Lubad's MLV Membrane?

Our membrane carries an STC 34 (Sound Transmission Class) rating, meaning it blocks a broad spectrum of medium and low-frequency sound waves — traffic noise, bass, voices, machinery, and HVAC hum. It is made from high-density vinyl compound with no lead content, and is engineered for permanent installation in architectural and construction environments.

Beyond its acoustic performance, it resists moisture, mold, and corrosion, making it suitable for bathrooms, basements, and any humid environments where inferior materials would fail over time.

Choose Your Variant

The 3mm variant (1m × 5m, 5 m² per roll) is the go-to choice for most wall and ceiling applications. Its lighter weight makes it easy to handle solo during installation, and its 5-meter length covers more area per roll, reducing material joins. Ideal for: recording studios, home theaters, apartment walls, office partitions, and meeting rooms.

The 5mm variant (1m × 3m, 3 m² per roll) delivers enhanced mass and blocking power, making it ideal for floors, heavy doors, shared walls with loud commercial neighbors, mechanical rooms, and any scenario where maximum noise reduction is required. Its added thickness also provides minor thermal insulation as a secondary benefit.

How to Install

MLV installs directly onto studs, existing drywall, concrete, or plywood. It can be stapled, nailed, screwed, or glued using heavy-duty construction adhesive. For best results, install it in a single layer before the finishing wall surface is applied. Seams between rolls should be overlapped by at least 2–3cm and sealed with mass loaded vinyl tape for an airtight acoustic barrier.

Where to Use It

This product is the right choice for recording studios and podcast rooms, home theaters and media rooms, residential walls between apartments or floors, office meeting rooms and boardrooms, hotel rooms and hospitality projects, school classrooms and auditoriums, mechanical and plant rooms, and commercial and industrial construction.

FAQ Section

Q: What is the difference between the 3mm and 5mm variants? Both variants use the same high-density MLV compound. The 5mm variant has greater mass per m², which translates to marginally higher sound blocking performance — particularly for low-frequency sounds like bass and heavy machinery. Choose 3mm for standard wall and ceiling applications; choose 5mm for floors, doors, or high-noise environments.

Q: Can I layer two rolls for better performance? Yes. Double-layering MLV significantly improves STC performance. Two 3mm layers will outperform a single 5mm layer due to the decoupled mass effect. Leave a small air gap between layers when possible.

Q: Does MLV also work as thermal insulation? MLV is primarily an acoustic product, not a thermal insulator. The 5mm variant offers minor thermal resistance as a secondary benefit, but should not replace dedicated thermal insulation in your wall assembly.

Q: How do I join two rolls together at the seam? Overlap the edges by 2–3cm and seal with mass loaded vinyl seam tape. Do not leave gaps — any gap will allow sound to bypass the barrier entirely.

Q: How many rolls do I need? Measure the total surface area (height × width) of all surfaces you want to treat, then divide by the coverage per roll (5 m² for 3mm, 3 m² for 5mm). Add 10–15% extra for offcuts and overlaps. Use the calculator above to get an instant estimate.

Q: Is this product safe for indoor use? Yes. The membrane is lead-free and compliant with indoor air quality requirements. It does not off-gas under normal conditions.
